An unusually bright blue sky hung over the beach this morning, yet it felt eerie. I don’t normally see much seaweed, cuttlefish bones, or plastic washed ashore, but after this week’s storms there was suddenly loads of it.
I had a feeling I’d come across a shoe, or at least a lonely sole.
The more I think about it, the more I realise a washed-up shoe is the last thing I want to find. A discarded kid’s croc on the sand is one thing… but a shoe that’s drifted in from out at sea feels like something else entirely.
There was also a huge tree log that at first I thought might be a dead dolphin or a seal. Further along I did spot a dead bloated seagull.
