Lonely flip flop in the Dubai desert
– When did you take that one?
Ages ago. Just going through old pics on phone to delete
– Does it not say on the photo, month, year?
It would have been Dec/Jan 2016 or April 2017. I’d deleted the original shot but my friend resent it in a convo whilst reminiscing. Think it was al qudra region/desert (but I can’t spell it as pissed and stoned now)
– You’re doing so well, if you could just focus in on the year!
ok I’m going to say Jan 2017. But it could have been April 2017 in Abu Dhabi. Have I complicated matters further? Can we just go with UAE 2017 which covers all bases
– Well it does mess up my numbering somewhat – but that’s ok / I do need a day of a month of a year – and a short caption… thank you dearly
So we left the camp at Al Qudra, Dubai, on New Years Day 2017. I’m sure it was taken on that day as we were busy setting up camp the evening before and then it would have been dark. I’m sure it wasn’t Abu Dhabi as the sand is stonyish in the pic and the island we were in in Abu Dhabi I remember being very fine beach sand. We’d been camping at Al Qudra for NYE. I feel like Columbo now with all my deducing
– Yes, keep going…
What more do you need? It looks like a UK size 6 I reckon. Branding is faded and hard to read but I’m going to put my money on Havaianas. I’d say womens, but a small footed metrosexual male isn’t out of the question. It has some wear to it which I’ll wager was caused by a passing camel having a munch then spitting it out.
– I just need you to settle on a day, month and a year, even if it’s a best guess, and then maybe a short sentence of how it mad you feel, or what compelled you to take a picture, less about the shoe, more about you – also would you like to be credited as Purbeck Wintour? We’re so close to getting this flip-flop published, we’re in the final push!
Oh the pressure! Ok, so Jan 1st 2017, Al Qudra desert, UAE. I was horribly hungover and sliding down a dune after sneaking off to have a poo. Friends in our group had found explosives they were throwing on the camp fire, so I hid behind the Hummer where I spotted the (potentially a Havaiana) flip flop. I felt compelled to take a photo as I wanted fame and notoriety on the lonely shoe blog. Actually my friend took the photo as my phone was dead. When I told her why I wanted it she gave me a concerned look. She whatsapped it to me probably later that day and I forgot all about it until 1 year and 10 months later…
Or if you want a short version, I suppose the shade of blue against the white sand is quite striking. Like a small blue pool of water in the dry desert
– Fabulous x I do love a story, thank you
You’re welcome I’m now also thinking Havanas aren’t cheap so I’d be pissed off at losing mine! x
